Meet the
Founders of TRUVA
Jane & Graham share why they started TRUVA
An interview with the people behind TRUVA — and why they’re changing the way letting agents operate in Scotland.
Q: Let’s start at the beginning — why did you launch TRUVA Lettings?
Jane
Honestly, it came from frustration.
We’ve both been landlords for years, and we’ve experienced first-hand what it’s like dealing with letting agents who just don’t deliver the level of service you expect — especially when you’re trusting them with such a valuable asset.
There’s often a lack of communication, delays in rent being paid, and no real transparency around what’s actually happening with your property.
We got to the point where we said: “Why doesn’t an agent exist that actually does this properly?”
So we built it.
Graham
Exactly. TRUVA is the letting agent we wanted for our own portfolio — simple as that.
We didn’t start this as a “business idea.”
We started it to solve a real problem we were experiencing ourselves.
Q: What makes TRUVA different from other letting agents?
Graham
We approach everything from a landlord’s perspective — because we are landlords.
That changes everything.
We understand that this isn’t just a rental — it’s an investment. It’s income. It’s long-term wealth.
So our focus is on protecting the asset, maximising income and keeping everything running smoothly.
Jane
And communication is a big one.
Landlords shouldn’t have to chase their agent to find out what’s going on. With TRUVA, everything is structured, proactive, and visible.
We use systems that give landlords real-time insight into their property — not just the occasional update.
Q: Tell us a bit about your property experience
Graham
I bought my first buy-to-let property back in 2010, and since then I’ve built a portfolio that includes both long-term lets and serviced accommodation.
Along the way, I’ve worked with investors, property sourcers, and been involved in flipping properties too — so I’ve seen the full lifecycle of property investment.
Jane
My background is slightly different — I come from over 30 years in marketing and business. I’ve owned and managed hospitality businesses, including a B&B and Airbnb properties. I was also a landlord for 10 years and as well as being a tenant for a period of time, so I have experienced both sides of the business.
That experience is really valuable because it brings a strong focus on customer experience — both for tenants and landlords.
And when you combine that with property investment knowledge, it creates a much more well-rounded approach to management.
Q: What kind of landlords do you typically work with?
Jane
We tend to attract landlords who are either:
- Fed up with poor communication and service from their current agent
- Self-managing and feeling overwhelmed
- Or serious about growing a property portfolio and want a more strategic partner
Graham
We’re not trying to be the cheapest agent in the market.
We’re focused on delivering true value — which means doing things properly, protecting the property, and helping landlords make better long-term decisions.
Q: What does “True Value Property Management” actually mean?
Graham
It means looking beyond just collecting rent.
Anyone can do that.
True value is:
- Preventing problems before they happen
- Handling issues quickly and professionally
- Making sure compliance is always covered
- And ultimately protecting the landlord’s income and asset
Jane
It’s also about transparency.
Clear financials. Clear communication. No grey areas.
Landlords should always feel in control — even when they’re fully hands-off.
Q: What’s your vision for TRUVA over the next few years?
Jane
We want to build a letting agency that people actively recommend — not one they tolerate.
There’s a huge opportunity in the market right now to raise standards.
Graham
And we want to grow with the right landlords — people who care about their properties and want them managed properly.
This isn’t about volume for us.
It’s about building something solid, trusted, and long-term.
Q: Final question — what would you say to a landlord thinking about switching agents?
Jane
Don’t assume what you’re experiencing is “normal.”
A lot of landlords stay with poor agents far longer than they should — simply because they think all agents are the same.
They’re not.
Graham
And switching is often much easier than people think.
If you’re not getting:
- Clear communication
- Timely rent payments
- Proper management
…then it’s worth having a conversation.
Want to carry on the conversation?
We make the transition simple, seamless and fully managed. For a better state of mind.
